Garagefilm is an independent production company run by producer Mimmi Spång. The company was founded in 2007. In 2010 producer Anna-Maria Kantarius joined the company.

Garagefilm are known for producing award winning features and TV-series with a voice deeply roted in our time. We provide powerful and unique stories by focusing on finding and investing in long term relations with unique talents. By collaborating with some of Sweden’s most exciting directors we constantly strive to make a mark with strong stories, a high artistic ambition and a voice of its own. We want to encourage reflection and awareness and we want the audiences to feel either moved, ready to takeaction or to be empowered. We strive to reach wide without losing edge. With a tradition of co-producing internationally, we are now developing and producing a nuanced and diverse slate of films and tv-series of high artistic quality.

Garagefilm’s work amounts to around forty titles, with the feature debut The Hypnosis by Ernst de Geer, the TV-series Taelgia by Jens Östberg and Painkiller by Gabriela Pichler, both for SVT, being the latest releases. The Hypnosis premiered at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival 2023, where it received the FIPRESCI Critic's Award, the Europé Cinema Label Award and Best Actor Award. Taelgia was nominated for Prix Europa 2023 and Painkiller was nominated for Best Short at Canneseries in 2024. In 2023 Garagefilm’s co-production Slow by director Marija Kavtaradze won the Best Directing Award (World Cinema Dramatic) at Sundance Film Festival. In 2022 three of Garagefilms co-productions premiered; Woman on the roof by Anna Jadowska at Tribeca Film Festival, Godland by Hlynur Pálmason and Sick of Myself by Kristoffer Borgli both premiered at Festival De Cannes (Un Certain Regard). Over the years Garagefilm’s projects have collected over eighty awards in total, including two Guldbagge Awards for Best Film, one Best First Feature Award at Berlin International Film Festival, a Dragon Award at Göteborg International Film Festival and prizes at Toronto International Film Festival, Torino Film Festival, San Sebastian Film Festival and International Film Festival Rotterdam, among others. 

In 2022 Garagefilm was selected for Screen Intenational’s selection of the 75 leading independent production companies in Europe.
